The upcoming Land Of The Lost movie...

I've been following this movie remake closely since the rumors started about it back in the early 90's.

Back then, it was going to be a Disney movie. But I don't know anything else about what that movie would have been like. My guess - it would have been similar to the 1991 ABC remake of the show.

That TV series had temporarily stopped production between the 2nd and 3rd seasons, but never resumed after the end of the 2nd season. Rumors of the movie became more sporadic after that too. (When the movie eventually comes out, I'll have to tell you about my attempts at writing for the 1991 series - attempts that were constantly derailed by bad timing.)

The new remake will be with Universal Studios instead of Disney. I'm extremely happy about that and based on conversations I've had many years ago with Marty Krofft, I know he's happy about that too. Something else to be happy about - the movie has a gigantic budget of $100 million.

Will Ferrell will star. But here's the really exciting part - it was just announced that Anna Friel (Chuck from "Pushing Daisies") will play the love interest of Will Ferrell's character!

Now for the not-so-exciting part. It sounds like the movie might be the kind where they mostly make fun of the original series. The movie has been called both an "event comedy" and an "adventure fantasy" in different press releases. I'm hoping for adventure fantasy - another Jurassic Park-type movie would be nice.

We'll see in a year or so. The screenplay has been written for a while now, so the strike won't delay the filming. I'll let you know when I hear anything else on this...
