The movie is done kind of like a documentary on what went down in District 9. There was quite a bit of gore, but it was done very well. And the special effects were awesome. The same can be said with the aliens, which were featured prominently throughout the movie.
And the storyline kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. It was very well written - with one exception.
My only complaint with the movie was the constant f-bombs. The reason that's usually used in movies is because the writer just isn't that good and is unable to come up with anything else. In this case though, that was the only flaw with the writing.
Everything else was perfect. The movie shifted from suspenseful to funny to sad, all while remaining filled with non-stop action.
If you want to see one of the best alien movies out there, this is it.
It's rated R. I'm thinking it's fine for anyone in their teens and up. I'm sure it got the R rating for the violence and unnecessary language.
Check out the official preview. I watched it myself before going to see the movie and it didn't spoil anything for me...
After you see the movie, visit the official website to learn more about District 9 (Wikipedia has some helpful hints for the website if you need them - look in the Marketing campaign section).
Also check out Alive In Joburg, the short film that the movie was based on. Wait until after seeing the movie to watch this. If you do see it first, keep in mind the movie had a 30 million dollar budget while the short film didn't even have anything remotely close to that.
If you end up seeing District 9, let me know what you think...
