Hyundai commercial Christmas music...

You've seen the commercials. A girl singing holiday songs with a seemingly uncaring attitude while a guy runs around the car playing instruments.

The group is Pomplamoose and they're specialty seems to be commercial music. They've also been posting quite a few songs to their YouTube Channel in the form of VideoSongs (which contain no lip-syncing for instruments or voice according to their description).

The thing that originally caught my attention is the kind of unfeeling air of Nataly Dawn, the singer (and you can hear it in her voice). I'm sure that's not really the case though - it's just a very different style and it works so well with the music. It makes the songs distinctive and catchy.

And it makes me watch the full 30-second Hyundai commercial every single time one of them is on. I'll even stop to watch if I'm scanning through the channels and run across them.

Here's Pomplamoose with their full length version of Deck The Halls...

You can get Pomplamoose's new Christmas album for free if you donate a book through amazon.com to the Richmond (California) Book Drive. Visit the Richland Book Drive website for all the details.

I discovered Pomplamoose about a year ago. I think what's harder to rationalize with them is that they are uncompromising musicians whose 2nd (or maybe 3rd) priority is the money. Yes, they arranged a song for Hyundai, but it was there vision, their garage and their editing. And the money they got for it allowed them forgo selling their Christmas album and instead have over 10k books donated to a book drive. BTW, last year you had to buy a goat for a Christmas MP3 :)

Take a look at their older stuff (Centrifuge) and collaborations with Ben Folds and Allee Willis (who found them after they covered her song "September" that Earth Wind and Fire originally recorded.)
