Michael Jackson spotted - NOT!

About a week ago, this video was released supposedly showing that Michael Jackson faked his death!

As most reasonably intelligent people figured, the video is a fake. In fact, a press release was released just before the video release alerting the world to the fact that it was fake.

It was a Berlin TV station experiment to show how easy it is to spread rumors online. It worked - this video was all over the place last week. Except on my blog - it was just too ridiculous even for me to post originally.

Our Star 102.5 studio computer...

Ever wonder how we put together all the things you hear on-air? We sure don't play things off CD anymore - haven't for a long time (unless something disastrous happens to our on-air computer).

At Star 102.5, we use a computer program called Dalet. I thought I'd give you a little look at it with a screenprint from earlier tonight...

Sorry about the blurry picture. It's the best I could do with the screenprint. And I probably shouldn't be posting a super clear picture of our on-air computer anyways - that could be bad.

So, everything we need is in the folders you see in the middle. If I want a jingle between the songs, I'll go to that folder and drag it to the left into the playlist. Or maybe I want to swap songs out for requests (which I do all the time during the Retro Show) - same for that, I'd just find the song and bring it to the left.

The carts at the bottom left are for extra things we play like sound effects (Brian uses them during the Mindbender), music beds that we talk over, or audio clips.

There's also a mixer feature (opened up on the bottom right) that allows us to mix different elements together so that a song doesn't completely end before the next one begins.

It's a cool program. There's obviously a lot more to it, as I spend quite a bit of my shift working with the program and preparing our stations for the next day.

Just thought I'd let you see one of the things that helps bring Star 102.5 to you everyday...

Do you stink?

Then here's the perfect product for you - Aspray.

This is not a joke (although it sure seems like it after watching the infomercial). It aired overnight on MSNBC once and then they pulled it due to its ridiculous content.

My favorite part - the testimonial / dramatization at 1:15 in the video. They could not have found a better person for that - you can almost smell him though the computer. His last comment (mentioned almost as an afterthought) is absolutely hysterical!

New evidence at the Iron Island Museum!

Linda at the Iron Island Museum just posted this video from her security cameras (which roll 24/7 at the museum)...

You can see the ball roll on its own at about 17 seconds into the video. Shortly after that, there's a zoomed-in version of the same image.

The video comes without audio in case you're wondering. If you want a slightly larger image of this, click on the video as it's playing and it'll take you to the video's official YouTube site.

Knowing Linda, I know this video is definitely legit. She disproved one thing me, Shannon, and Jen thought happened on our overnight ghost hunt a few months back!

But because I have to question everything, I do wonder why the ball was sitting there to begin with. There's no question that it moved on its own. But it just seems strange that it was just there in what appears to be the "military" room for no reason.

I'm sure there's a story that goes along with this. Hopefully, more will be posted about it on the museum's website.

Which speaking of, visit the Iron Island Museum website to learn more about the place and to book an overnight ghost hunt (which is SO much fun).

District 9 movie review (no spoilers)...

This is an alien movie done right.

It's not a war with aliens movie, army vs. aliens movie, or non-stop alien combat movie. It's just a straight-up alien movie that was absolutely amazing.

The movie is done kind of like a documentary on what went down in District 9. There was quite a bit of gore, but it was done very well. And the special effects were awesome. The same can be said with the aliens, which were featured prominently throughout the movie.

And the storyline kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. It was very well written - with one exception.

My only complaint with the movie was the constant f-bombs. The reason that's usually used in movies is because the writer just isn't that good and is unable to come up with anything else. In this case though, that was the only flaw with the writing.

Everything else was perfect. The movie shifted from suspenseful to funny to sad, all while remaining filled with non-stop action.

If you want to see one of the best alien movies out there, this is it.

It's rated R. I'm thinking it's fine for anyone in their teens and up. I'm sure it got the R rating for the violence and unnecessary language.

Check out the official preview. I watched it myself before going to see the movie and it didn't spoil anything for me...

After you see the movie, visit the official website to learn more about District 9 (Wikipedia has some helpful hints for the website if you need them - look in the Marketing campaign section).

Also check out Alive In Joburg, the short film that the movie was based on. Wait until after seeing the movie to watch this. If you do see it first, keep in mind the movie had a 30 million dollar budget while the short film didn't even have anything remotely close to that.

If you end up seeing District 9, let me know what you think...

On-ride Space Roller / Top Scan...

My friend Chris posted this - the POV video gives you an idea of what it's like on Space Roller / Top Scan.

This looks like it might have been a mellow ride to me...

Ohio State Fair rides...

I went to the Ohio State Fair this weekend. I love crazy spin rides and they always have a giant collection of some of the best.

Here's a video I found on YouTube of the rides there...

Extreme was named perfectly. It was the first time I've been on that ride and I couldn't believe how insane that was.

Top Scan / Space Roller (at about :57 into the video) was my absolute favorite though. That was one of the main reasons I went to the fair. Canada's Wonderland actually has the same ride (called Shockwave there), but they run it on berserk mode at the fair.

Combine the rides with all the incredible deep fried stuff that got to visit my stomach, and this was one of my favorite weekends of the year so far!

National Day of Mourning...

No more Paula Abdul on American Idol. :(

Maybe FremantleMedia and Fox are trying to make the show take a dive in the ratings. If so, they're definitely on the right track. Paula's crazy antics and her banter with Simon were some of the best parts of the show.

Let's remember some of Paula's greatest moments from the show...

And just because, here's links to my favorite Paula Abdul videos...
