The exhibit is made up of actual artifacts taken from the Titanic wreck on the ocean floor along with stories about some of the passengers. There was dishes and utensils from the kitchen, a decorative piece of metal from the grand staircase handle, various knick-knacks some of the passengers had brought with them, and various parts of the ship itself.
It sounds crazy to pay to go see these random things (including the lid off a toothpaste jar). But the story that goes along with these objects makes it worth the trip.
I would have taken video to show you what it's like, but they had a strict no video policy. I wavered on that for a bit, then decided to keep the camera off.
It took me and my friends about an hour and a half to see the entire thing (we read every story there was). Be warned though, there was a crowd. In fact, the exhibit sold out both days this past weekend. If you want to guarantee you'll get in, buy your tickets 24 hours in advance on the museum website.
The rest of the museum is also included with the ticket. I prefer the Buffalo Museum or the Strong Museum Of Play in Rochester over this one. But the Titanic stuff makes this worth visiting.
The Titanic Artifact exhibit runs daily through January 24th (they just extended it by a week). Visit the Rochester Museum of Science website for exact hours.
